10 activities to keep you busy during COVID-19 quarantine to help you make the most out of your time & days spent at home social distancing!
Hi everyone – hope you’re holding up well! I know everyone is feeling an extremely wide range of emotions right now…& just so you know, whatever you may be feeling is 100% valid! There’s a lot going on, no doubt. Today I wanted to share some things that I’ve been doing while in quarantine to help keep me active, motivated, grounded, focused, & in a good mental state! While there are many things we’re unable to control, we CAN control how we choose to spend our days – my advice? Make the most out of them…& I hope these 10 activities help you do just that!
1. Read a new book or reread an old favorite
This can be a really great time to finally snuggle up & read that book that’s been sitting on your shelf for the past couple months! I personally would like to finish a book or two by the time this whole social distancing is over. There’s so many good books out there…one that I would really like to read is Where The Crawdads Sing. It’s been on my radar for over a year now & I’ve heard nothing but great things. Are you in need of some reading inspiration? Check out this post for tons of book inspiration.
2. Make time to meditate
I know the current state of everything COVID-19 related has ignited lots of anxiety, fear, & uncertainty for many people. Carving out 10-15 minutes a day for a simple mediation can be really soothing & comforting for anyone who may be struggling with anxiety. My favorite free resource for meditation is an app called Insight Timer. Headspace & Calm are two other great resources for meditation. For more tips on meditation, check out this post.
3. Cook a nourishing meal
It’s important that we are still taking care of ourselves during this time spent in quarantine. Chips, cookies, & items containing refined sugar are easy to snack on during our time spent at home, but it’s still important that we nourish our bodies. I’ve been referring to my healthy grocery list to make meals from both pantry items & fresh, but ones that are full of nutrients & incorporate whole foods. Need a dinner idea using a handful of pantry staples? Try making my black bean & sweet potato stew!
4. Discover a new hobby
Use this time in social distancing to do something that you’d always like to do, but never have the time to! Paint, draw, write, color, cook, bake, take an online class, do yoga, – the options are endless! Now is the time! I personally love to color (always have) & writing this post just reminded me of my adult coloring book full of stress-relieving patterns that’s just sitting in my basket of books – definitely need to take my own advice & break that out!
5. Move your body
Many people are adjusting to this new reality of working out at home. At-home workouts are nothing new to me. I’ve been working out at home for over a year now & actually prefer it compared to a gym setting. My go-to is Melissa Wood Health…I highly recommend checking out her 7-day free trail – it will have you hooked! Also, for my best tips on how to make the most out of your home workout, check out this post!
6. Go for a walk
Going outdoors & going for a leisurely walk or run is allowed right now. As long as you maintain social distancing & remain 6 feet apart from others. Breathing in some fresh air can definitely make a difference in your day, give you a burst of energy, & give you a little reprieve from being indoors!
7. Call a family member
Thank God for FaceTime am I right?! Pick up the phone & give a family member or friend a call – it’s the best way to feel instantly connected to those closest to you!
8. Watch a new TV series
Now is the perfect time to catch up on your favorite show, re-watch an old one, or start something new! I’ve watched SO many amazing series over the years on Netflix, my most recent being a show called Tiger King. It’s 100% bizarre in every way but was SO entertaining! Now I’m catching up on the last season of Homeland. A few more shows that I’ve recently enjoyed on Netflix have been YOU, Love Is Blind, Schitt’s Creek, & Grace & Frankie!
9. Create a new self-care routine
It’s SO important that we continue to make the necessary time to take care of ourselves. Self-care can look different for everyone & that’s the beauty of it! I want to do a entire post on the ways I’m practicing self-care during my time spent in quarantine, but for now, I’ll share a few of my favorites – doing a face mask (shop my favorite mask here), enjoying a hot cup of tea with my favorite candle lit, & making time for my daily yoga practice. For more self-care ideas, check out this post!
10. Practice gratitude
I’m a big believer in the power of having a gratitude practice – check out this post & this post for more ways to develop your own! There are many people struggling right now. Many people are sick & have lost loved ones due to this virus. Many people have lost jobs & are unemployed. Nurses & doctors are working endlessly to take care of the sick. And unfortunately, many people don’t have the means to stock up on food or supplies for long periods of time. We have a lot to be grateful for, especially if you have a roof over your head, your health, loved ones by your side, food in your fridge, & a place to lay your head at night. Times may be tough, but it’s up to us to still seek gratitude in what is & to welcome in more positivity, light, & love during this very unsettling time.
I hope this post gave you some ideas for how to spend your days in quarantine! I can’t say I ever imagined titling a post with the word quarantine in it, but here we are! Crazier things have happened I guess! Remember to stay positive, stay grateful, & stay INSIDE – if able. It’s important that we work together to flatten the curve of this virus, so we’re able to return to normal life sooner rather than later! Stay healthy & safe, my friends!

I love the idea to practice gratitude! Although times are difficult, focusing on what we are grateful for can have a huge impact on our outlook!
I agree Jen! Thanks for stopping by! xo
I needed this. I work from home, which means I’m grateful for having a job to bring income. The kids are home as school is cancelled, which means I’m going crazy but have more time for them. Now I think I’ll add a daily facial mask to my routine.
You got this Sarah!! Thanks for reading…love the idea of adding in a face mask! 🙂
Such a great post Madi. All great ideas here! 🙂
Thank you!!
I really love a lot of these, especially the idea of gratitude. We have so much more time to think and be thankful for numerous things, and now is a great way to show it, especially towards ourselves.
Just reading through your suggestions made me feel uplifted. Great ideas, btw. I truly believe that a positive attitude is just the thing we all need right about now!
That makes me so happy to hear, thank you Rosemary – hang in there xo
