The Magic by Rhonda Byrne will help you learn the tools necessary to attracting the life you desire through 28 powerful practices centered upon gratitude!
As some of you may already know, one of my goals for the year is to finish reading one book per month. I started the Magic by Rhonda Byrne towards the end of February after finishing Oprah’s What I Know for Sure. The Magic isn’t just a normal, easy read. It requires time & dedication because it’s meant to be completed in 28 consecutive days. If you skip a day, you must back track, three days, so to avoid this, I committed to each daily practice as they came. As with anything, if you are consistent with something, you’re able to really notice a difference & create strong habits. After finishing the Magic, I couldn’t be happier with the progress I made. With that said, I wanted to share with you all 5 of my main takeaways, in the hopes that you might find something to apply in your own life!
If you are unfamiliar, Rhonda Byrne is the author of the immensely popular book called the Secret, which has sold 30 million copies worldwide. That’s insane, right?! That just shows you the intense desire people have for self betterment. I mean who doesn’t want to live the life of their dreams? Sometimes you just need an extra push in the right direction, which both the Secret & Magic can do.
The Magic involves life-changing thought patterns & actions centered upon gratitude. As mentioned, this book is broken into 28 daily practices in order to help readers reap the full benefits of this influential & powerful information created to help you achieve the life of your dreams.

There isn’t one person out there that wouldn’t benefit from the practices in this book. I mean even for me personally, I thought I was doing a great job of practicing gratitude & practicing ideas of forward-thinking but the Magic opened my eyes to so many new thought patterns & possibilities. It’s never too late to start practicing gratitude & I can assure you that your life will only benefit from reading this book.
I wanted to share with you 5 takeaways from the daily Magic practices. Although I loved them all & wish I could walk you through each one, that’d be a little too long haha! I truly can’t recommend this book enough. If you are looking for new growth, feeling stuck, aren’t in the best place, or just feeling down in regards to any life situation, this book can be a wonderful resource for transforming your mindset into one that welcomes abundance & blessings in all forms!
5 Main Takeaways from The Magic
1. Visualize every detail of you desired life & write it down!
Visualization is key. Many of the daily Magic practices focus on visualizing your desired life…every last detail of it, even down to emotions felt when you finally receive your desires or complete your goals. The Magic practice works with a list of your top 10 desires regarding everything, health, finances, relationships, career, personal goals…anything you want, because it’s your life!!
Frequent this list of your top 10 desires often & saturate each desire in gratitude before & after it happens. You also should take it a step further & write it all down. Write down EVERYTHING….I can’t emphasize this enough! Writing things down is so powerful because it sets those thoughts apart from everything else floating around in your head! Every single day of the Magic practice required written work, because it’s a huge difference maker!
2. Find a Magic Rock
I have to be honest & admit that this year was the second time I attempted the 28 day Magic practice. The first time was over a year & a half ago. I completed the first day but didn’t make it past Day 2. Along with some written work, Day 2 requires you to find a “Magic Rock” to keep by your bedside. This rock will remind you to be grateful for something really good that happened that day. Safe to say, I didn’t find my Magic Rock, because I never even attempted to look for one.
It’s crazy to look back because I have a completely different perspective than I did just over a year ago! I’ve also become extremely fond of crystals & gemstones. So this time around, when it came time to choose my Magic Rock for the Day 2 Magic practice, I knew exactly the stone I wanted to use. It’s pictured below. And I love it because it unintentionally looks like a little heart.
I’ve continued using my Magic Rock even after finishing the Magic because honestly, I really enjoy holding the rock in my palm, before I go to sleep, & thinking of something that I’m really grateful for at the end of the day. Also, every time I even glance at the rock, I think of gratitude, which I love.
If you’re into this idea, choose something, it really doesn’t even have to be a rock or a stone…place it next to your bed, hold it in your palm before you go to sleep each night, & think of something you are grateful for or something that went really well that particular day! It’s a great way to remain present & grateful before falling asleep!
3. Be grateful for things before they happen
The key for welcoming more abundance into your life is to be grateful for things before they happen. Whether that involves money, health, a promotion, a better relationship, or an improved life. You must be grateful for those things, even if you don’t have them yet. If you are grateful, you will be given more. But if you don’t have gratitude, what you have, even if it’s just a little, will be taken.
Many people think they only have to practice gratitude after something really great happens in life, but that’s not true. You must be grateful for your desired outcome before & after it happens in order for the magic of gratitude to work.
“Whoever has gratitude will be given more & they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have gratitude, even what he or she has will be taken from him or her.” – The Magic
4. You can transform any situation into something to be grateful for
We wouldn’t be human if we didn’t make mistakes or go through difficult life scenarios. In the moment, those really tough situations following a mistake or a difficult time can be extremely draining, emotionally, mentally, & physically, & it’s hard to see anything good coming from the situation.
Instead of placing blame, which can an extremely convenient thing to do, it’s important to own our mistakes & to transform them into something we can learn from & be grateful for. If we don’t learn from the mistake, there is no progress made & we will continue to make the same mistake over & over. The way to transform any hurt, pain, frustration, disappointment, or whatever other emotions associated with your mistakes is through gratitude.
Mistakes attract mistakes & blessings attract blessings. The Magic urges you to write down a list of 10 magical blessings that came out of a difficult situation. Ask yourself, what did you learn? And what are the good things that occurred throughout the process that changed your life for the better.
5. The Magic Words – THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Repeating “THANK YOU” three times is the magic formula. I’ve really loved introducing this thank you practice into my life as well as, the other Magic practices I’ve learned. I think saying & writing the words thank you, thank you, thank you, hold so much power & so much meaning. You just feel good about yourself & about life when you take the time to pause for a moment & say thank you.
According to the Magic, the number three is the formula for new creation in the Universe. This is why saying it three times really solidifies the gratitude intention. I’ve been ending my day by placing my hands over my heart & saying thank you 3x & also I end my yoga practices in the same way. It has such a calming effect & really helps you tune into being grateful in that exact moment.
So there you have it – my 5 main takeaways from my 28 days spent practicing & applying gratitude to literally everything in sight. I made the time to commit to each practice & I truly believe I took away so much from every single page in the book. I can’t recommend it enough.
Have you read The Magic? I’d love to hear your thoughts down below in the comments!

I should really read this. I’ve been looking for books that will help motivate / inspire me and get me on a positive track to accomplishing my goals. It sounds like this has some really helpful advice in it to really visualize your goals. I love the idea of having something at your bedside to hold before bed as a reminder to be grateful for something that happened that day, that’s such a positive idea!
Thanks so much for stopping by Bree! I couldn’t agree more! Let me know if you have any additional questions! xo

Thanks for stopping by Fiorella! I actually haven’t read the Secret, but I’m sure it’s just as amazing as this one! xo
I have seen several references to this book recently. I’m sure that’s the Universe’s way of telling me to get off my bum and get it! It is fascinating to me how much repetition we need to make lasting changes. I have read several books on the law of attraction, but I always fall back into my old patterns. I like how this book really helps you solidify a habit. Off to the bookstore ?
Yes I couldn’t agree more with what you said here…it’s one thing to just read something but you need to practice applying the changes for them to stick. Another reason why I loved this book…it made you be accountable! 🙂
Excellent book to review! I follow a daily gratitude practice but never thought about being thankful before something happens!

I’m so glad to hear that – thank you, thank you, thank you, for stopping by George!
I have read and finished the Magical Practices 5 times in my life so far. I started when I was going through a terrible divorce. I needed to maintain gratitude, but, being betrayed by the one you love is something that will rock the strongest of us, I believe. My mother was also in Hospice and I was her care giver and I had to sell my home in a bad market. BUT, the Magic truly helped me. It made me focus on the good in each day and every part of my life. I was given almost all of the important things that I had on my wish list. Now, whenever I find my gratitude energies changing and feeling a little sorry for myself, I start the magic again. IT IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME! I love this book. I wish I could find another like it that has exercises to follow to keep on the right path and change bad thinking habits. Thank you for your thoughts. I loved the 5 that you chose. Thank you! Thank you! Thank. you!
Hi Denise! Thank you so much for sharing! So glad to hear that you too have enjoyed your experience of reading the Magic! It’s an incredible book & like you said, it truly does give you a difference experience each time! xo
