Sharing 6 Spring Trends for Spring 2018 featuring plaid menswear, white shoes, stripes & statement sleeves, dainty gold jewelry, gingham, & mustard yellow!
With fashion month coming to a close, I wanted to share with you my favorite Spring trends based on looks from the runway & street style. I have to say, there is nothing I enjoy more than scrolling through pictures of New York Fashion Week street style…each individual style is so unique, even more fabulous than the next. New York takes the cake for me, it’s my favorite, Milan & Paris coming in a close second!
One of the greatest things about social media is with Instagram, (if you follow the right accounts) you basically get an inside look to all the fashion glory including front row seats, showrooms, presentations, & a behind the scenes look at the AMAZING clothes, shoes, bags…UGH!!!
Now in regards to the designs shown at fashion week, the designers always present for the season ahead, so the looks weren’t summer or spring based, but instead fall & winter. Even though the looks weren’t necessarily “Spring” related, I took my favorite elements from off the street & runway, & converted them into style ideas for the Spring!
Trend #1 Plaid Menswear

In case you haven’t heard, menswear is so in. I think the term menswear can be really intimidating for some due to the name, but I think menswear can be so flattering & chic if the fit & style is right.
I love the look of a oversized men’s blazer with a white tee & a pair of high waisted jeans..such a classic & easy look that can work well on any body type. Also, a fitted pair of trousers, like the pair I featured from Urban Outfitters is such a great look for the Spring. You can really dress the plaid trouser up or down. Pair them with a simple graphic tee or statement shirt & you are good to go!
Plaid menswear-inspired looks were all over the runway this past month, designers such as Fendi, Balenciaga, Michael Kors, & Emilia Wickstead, all showed really cool plaid prints. Sportmax especially, had really amazing menswear inspired trousers with a wide leg. Now I know not everyone is a fan of a wide-leg pant, but I’ve really come to love the look of it.
Most of the menswear inspired trousers featured during fashion month were high waisted, which is an extremely flattering look for anyone.
For Easter this year, if all goes as planned, I will be putting my own take on this menswear trend with a high-waisted vintage trouser with a wide-leg, which definitely falls perfectly into this Spring trend. Can’t wait to share!

Trend #2 – A White Shoe

White is in! It’s crisp & clean…perfect for Spring. Danielle Berstein, the founder of We Wore What, was one of the it-girls I followed during fashion week. The way she styles her clothes is simply incredible. For quite a few of her looks, she featured a white shoe, & it was fabulous.
I love white, but before I wear a pair of all white shoes, this girl needs a tan (Sweden doesn’t see much sun…at all). I love the look of these white mules from Urban, especially with that wooden heel!
A white shoe can be paired so many different ways…with denim, patterns, bold colors, prints, & all black of course. Also, mules are a no-brainer…they are a current favorite of mine.
It-girl Danielle Berstein styled a pair of western-style white boots with silver embellishments with a white & black polka-dot dress, during Paris Fashion Week…view the look here & tell me it’s not to die for!!! If you’re in the need of some more style inspo, she also styled a pair of white kitten heel sock boots with white jeans & none other than a oversized plaid blazer…view the look here!

Trend #3 – Stripes & Accent Sleeves

Stripes were another trend taking over the runways this past month for designers like Colovos & Ferragamo. There is something so timeless about a button down & I love the idea of pairing it with a nice fitted pant.
I think stripes can go one of two ways, but I love the look of this bell-sleeve button down blouse from Urban.
It’s light & airy, making it simply perfect for Spring. I love how it’s paired with the short black shorts & how the lines of the stripes are so dainty & feminine.
Another way I saw striped button downs paired during fashion month was worn under a delicate dress. Before you go making assumptions, PLEASE look at how Danielle styled this look here!
If you want to amp up the timeless look of a button down even further, look for one with a statement sleeve. A statement sleeve can elevate any simple shirt & really bring something special to any outfit.

Trend #4 – Dainty Gold Jewelry

Gold dainty jewelry is my go-to because I think it helps brighten up your features, especially when the sun is shining!
I love this modern gold hoop set from Free People. You can also find really cool jewelry sets at American Eagle as well & for a really decent price. My ears are so sensitive to earrings, but for some reason, American Eagle earrings never cause my ears any trouble. Very bizarre, I know.
I only have one ear piercing but I LOVE the look of layering various styles of gold earrings, it gives such a cool-girl vibe.
As I explained in my Ruffled Sweaters & Mom Jeans post, I LOVE keeping my jewelry to a minimum, which is perfect because minimal style is in!
Pairing a pretty gold hoop can bring any outfit together & bring the right amount of light towards your face, especially if you have your hair slicked back into a ponytail or a sleek top-knot bun.

Trend #5 – Gingham Feminine Prints

Bold prints were seen on multiple runways this past month. Designers such as Jason Wu & Alexandre Vauthier went a more subtle route with polka dots, while Fendi, Dolce & Gabana, & Versace demonstrated bold head to toe prints.
If your not the type of girl that enjoys a head to toe print, I don’t blame you, LOL! But I do love the look of a monochromatic gingham.
Gingham is feminine & youthful…without looking too young!
I especially love this Urban Outfitters spaghetti strap gingham dress paired with light black tights. Pair it with a oversized black blazer or jean jacket for chilly days or even a beret hat & you have yourself a look!
Gingham is a huge trend this season & can EASILY be worn well into the summer, especially with a straw hat or bag, which is a very popular trend as well.

Trend #6 – BELT Bags & Mustard Yellow

If you would have told me a couple years ago that bags like this would be in, I would have never believed you. I was never a fan of the belt bag look until I saw bloggers styling outfits with their Gucci belt bags, & safe to say I fell in love. This particular bag from Urban Outfitters, is substantially less than the coveted Gucci, but I love the minimal design & sporty vibe it gives.
Not only are belt bags in for Spring, but so is this color…mustard yellow. This mustard yellow is one of the it-colors for Spring this year. If this color scares you but you want to find a way to somehow incorporate it into your Spring wardrobe, I’d recommend starting small & trying out the color on a bag like the one I featured!
Vibrant color blocking was a reoccurring theme on the runways, for designers like Marc Jacobs, Versace, and Emilia Wickstead. I personally really like the color of this bag, I think it’s fresh for Spring, & can easily be transitioned for the Fall.
