Sharing exactly how I’m prepping my closet for Spring & Summer 2020 by being more mindful of my purchases, reworking things I already have, & more!
Hi everyone! Alright, so I know times are a bit strange & not everyone is worried about the status of their closet, which I totally get! But for those who are, I wanted to chat a little bit about how I’m prepping my closet for Spring & Summer 2020. I know Spring is kind of non-existent right now because everyone is at home, but we do have a few more months before summer (hopefully) kicks off & we’ll all be outside enjoying the weather!
Below I’m sharing a few ideas that have been guiding my purchases lately & I thought they might be of use to you as well! Moving forward, I’m trying to be more mindful of my clothing purchases & the guidelines or tips I mention here in today’s post have been helping me do just that! Although I haven’t stopped buying fast fashion completely, I’ve definitely become more mindful of how I choose to spend my money on clothes. I personally don’t see anything wrong with buying a piece, no matter where it’s from, if you plan on wearing it a handful of times. I am trying to get away from wearing things only once or even twice.
That’s what I’m personally working on when it comes to prepping my closet for the months ahead! Although it’s hard to see where things are going to go within the next few months, it always feels good to treat yourself with a few items that you know you’ll get good use out of, take advantage of a sale, or just add something into your closet that you’ve had your eye on for a while now – for me, that item was this coat!
So let’s get into it!
How I’m Prepping My Closet for Spring & Summer 2020
1. Reworking Items I Already Have
I love the idea of shopping your closet & I think it’s something we all should be doing more of! In most cases, we have a lot of pieces that can be worn again or worn differently. I’m sure many of you can relate to only wearing something once or twice & then tossing it to the back of your closet to never see the light of day again. I know that has happened far too many times for me personally. So moving forward, I’m really trying to rework the items I already have. Hopefully, this will prevent over buying or buying something for a one-time wear!
2. Prioritizing Comfort
I don’t know about you, but I prioritize comfort almost over everything else! WHO likes to be uncomfortable!? I know I don’t! I have too many things in my closet that are either uncomfortable or just don’t fit right. And guess what, they’re getting the boot! I’m either donating or selling things that no longer are comfortable to wear & NOT buying items that I’m not 100% in love with the way they fit or feel on my body. Because I know that will lead to me never wearing the item as much as I thought I would…therefore wasting money & space in my closet.
3. Smart Shopping
I saw a post on Instagram where this girl talked about smart shopping & it was AMAZING. I wish I remembered her handle because I would have loved to link to her exact post. But I’ll just have to summarize what I remember the post saying. She talked about how people are buying too many trendy pieces which is fun to wear if you live in L.A. but the reality is, not all of us live there so we should be smarter with our purchases & invest in a capsule wardrobe instead of frivolous trendy pieces. I’ve definitely gotten better at becoming a smarter shopper, but I still have my moments! Eventually, I’d love to put together a capsule collection wardrobe, but I’m just not there yet!
4. Sticking to Neutrals
I find that I gravitate towards neutral tones, 95% of the time, so for the remainder of this year, Spring & Summer included, I’m only trying to bring in pieces that fit into the neutral color palette that I prefer. Why? Because I find that I do not wear vibrant colors the majority of the time & neutral items can easily be worked in & out with one another…which creates more possible outfits!
5. Consistently Donating/Selling
This, I’m already pretty good at. If I bring something new into my closet, I try to get rid of at least one stagnant thing. Either I donate or sell it on Poshmark. I love Poshmark, I think it’s a really great way to make space in your closet & make money in the meantime. I’m planning on doing a post all on my Poshmark selling tips, so stay tuned! And if you need help cleaning out your closet, check out this post in the meantime!

So that’s a breakdown into how I’m prepping my closet for Spring & Summer 2020. With that said, I did make a few purchases from Urban a few weeks ago consisting of two new denim pieces – two things I really did need…& then I got some cozy tops that I KNOW I will wear consistently. All sticking to my neutral color palette as well! I also got an amazing coat that I have been eying for MONTHs! It went on sale for $20 & I couldn’t bare to pass it up – it’s originally $99! And it’s perfect because although it’s kinda a heavier jacket for the Spring, it’s been pretty chilly here in New Hampshire, so I’ve already worn it like 5 times – to the grocery store & back, but still haha!
Below I’m sharing some of the pieces I purchased recently, along with some other favorites of mine from Urban Outfitters. Urban always has a variety of sales throughout each week. Perfect if you’re looking to spruce up your closet a bit for the upcoming months, while also saving some money!
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week & I hope you found my little tips for prepping your Spring or Summertime wardrobe to be helpful! Also, aren’t all of those items ADORABLE?!?!

Love this post. I agree …I’m all about comfort and neutrals. And I love black! I guess that neutral, too!
Thanks for stopping by Rosemary! xo
