My skincare essentials for the cold winter months are an all-natural rose water spray & rose hip oil, which replenish, hydrate, calm, & tone the skin.
Today I’m sharing two of my favorite skincare essentials (rose water & rose hip oil), how I use them, & the benefits of the two products. They are my skincare essentials for a reason! I have been using them both for months now & they have helped transform my skin without the use of a toner or even a moisturizer!
Especially with winter being full speed ahead, these two products are SAVING my skin from becoming super dry & irritated due to the cold & brutal winds of Sweden! For more winter skincare tips, check out my post on new ways to combat dry hair & skin in the winter!

Organic Rose Water
Okay so we’ve ALL heard about rose water. My mom likes to think she’s super trendy (which she is) because she started using rose water before Kim Kardashian announced she was using it.
You can find rose water everywhere! You can even make it. The rose water I use is from this great all-natural brand called Olivia Care. There are two ingredients in this product: Certified Organic Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Water & Aqua (Water).
Does it get cleaner than that???
When I think of rose water, I think of an effortless, youthful, easy, dewy glow. And it doesn’t get more effortless than those ingredients!
There is one rose water spray that is hyped up on social media by Mario Badescu. It absolutely looks like a useful product until you read the ingredients! It’s loaded with artificial dyes & fragrances! No thanks! If I’m putting something onto my face everyday, multiple times a day, I’m not going to use anything that has Red 33 or Blue 1 in it! While the product claims to be helping your skin, the added dyes & fragrances can end up causing even more skin issues.
Once you become aware of harmful ingredients like dyes, you notice them in everything! I will be posting about specific ingredients to look out for in beauty products in a future blog post!
Back to rose water…this is one of the cleanest products you can find & it is SO refreshing! Not only do you know exactly what is going onto your skin, but you & your skin will also reap multiple benefits from everyday use.
Rose water has multiple anti-bacterial & ant-inflammatory properties that help balance & tone the skin. There is nothing more soothing than spraying this onto your face first thing in the morning. It makes me feel instantly rejuvenated!
Rose water can also help with the following:
- Purifies & moisturizes the skin
- Helps reduce skin inflammation, as well as, the healing of scars & eczema
- Helps control fine lines & wrinkles, while revitalizing aging skin
- Calms & soothes sensitive skin
- Helps maintain a balanced pH level
- Can be used in the hair to combat dry ends & frizz
- Boosts mood & can be poured into a warm bath for instant relaxation

Rose Hip Oil
Before using this hydrating oil from Measurable Difference I shuttered at the thought of putting an oil on my face. I get very worried about using new products on my face due to past skin issues. Prior to this, I’d never used a facial oil & had no clue how my skin would react.
So being paranoid, I slowly started incorporating this oil into my morning & bedtime skincare routine. And by slowly, I mean SLOW, like used one drop & I only put it on my smile lines & eyelids. The first night I used it, Devin told me I smelled like a grandmother!
SO glad I didn’t cover my whole face HA!
Anyways, this is now one of my favorite products & I now cover my entire face, neck, & sometimes even hair with this amazing oil. I never liked the feeling of a moisturizer on my skin. For me, it always felt heavy, even if it was light. So by incorporating an oil into my skincare routine it didn’t leave my face feeling like a grease pit but instead provided moisture to my dry skin without being too heavy.
I would also recommend slowly working your way up to using the oil on your entire face, especially if you were like me & never used one before.
After I wash my face & spritz my face with the rose water, I then drop a few drops of this oil onto my palm & warm it up a bit before I apply it onto my face. I then really massage the oil into my skin, in an outward motion, focusing on any fine lines, wrinkles, or dry areas on my face. I repeat the same process in the evening.
You could also use a drop or two of this rose hip oil in your foundation or even in your moisturizer. After I apply my makeup, I sometimes take a drop of the oil in my palm & lightly pat it onto the top of my cheekbones for an added dewy glow.
Rose hip oil is wonderful for all skin types.
Due to the oil being rich in Omega 3, 6, Vitamin A, E, & C, this product nourishes & helps repair cells & skin, no matter if you are prone to dry, oily, or have combination skin.
Rose Hip Oil can also help with the following:
- Acne
- Skin irritation (My skin is very sensitive & once after being in the cold, my hands were so red, irritated, & itched like crazy…the only thing that helped was using this oil on my hands like a lotion! Took it right away!)
- Sunburn & sunspots
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Scarring
An added benefit to using the rose water & rose hip oil can be the therapeutic NATURAL fragrance. I find that the two products can really be energizing & even provide a mood lift! The rose water especially…I spritz my face at any time of the day when I need a little pick-me-up.
