Sharing 7 clean, Beautycounter products to help combat mask acne or ‘maskne’…these products will also help keep your pores clean, skin hydrated, & oil balanced!
Happy July! I took a slight break from posting on the blog after my last post on how to read ingredients labels..why? Because, honestly I needed a little break! But I’m back, I’m feeling creative, I’m ready to get back into the swing of things, & I’m excited to share a few Beautycounter products to help combat breakouts caused by wearing a mask! Many of us, some more than others, are having to wear a protective mask for hours upon end resulting in some serious irritation, clogged pores, excess oil, & unwanted blemishes!
Below are a handful of product suggestions to not only help clear up those mask-caused breakouts, but they’ll also help with making sure your pores are staying extra clean, any excess oil is being taken care of…they’ll help to protect your skin from environmental aggressors, cleanse, & keep your skin hydrated!
What more could you ask for?!
Before I get into the seven Beautycounter products to help combat mask acne, I did want to first share a few other tips to combat those unwanted breakouts from of course, wearing a mask…
- Make sure you’re consistently cleansing & removing all makeup – do you need a gentle cleanser without harsh, stripping, ingredients? Check these out!
- Hydrate your skin & body! Drink LOTS of water & wear a good moisturizer!! Side note – add a few drops of liquid chlorophyll into your glass of water…lots of health benefits & amazing for the skin! Read more about that here!
- Opt for lightweight makeup on days where you have to wear a mask – check out this foundation review or try my favorite tinted moisturizer…perfect for a no-makeup makeup look!
- Change or wash masks & your pillow case frequently
- Consider the type of mask you’re wearing (ex. material & breathability)
- Avoid touching your face
Alright, now onto products! Below are some of my favorite products to begin with, even better that they’re also able to help combat acne too! Although I’ve included seven options, you definitely do not need to be using all seven to see results, although you’re more than welcome to! If anything, I’d really suggest the Charcoal Mask, the Charcoal Cleansing Bar, & the No. 3 Balancing Oil for anyone who is struggling with breakouts & is looking for a good place to start product-wise!
Beautycounter Products to Help Combat Mask Acne
I truly look forward to doing this charcoal mask each week! Well, I actually do it about 2-3x a week because I love it that much & especially with the humidity lately + wearing a mask, my pores & skin need all the help it can get! This nutrient-rich kaolin clay mask will not only purify your complexion, but will also balance out & absorb any excess oil sitting on your skin! And trust me, you can see this mask working!!
With ingredients like salicylic & lactic acid, this mask also provides a gentle exfoliation without being too harsh on the skin, which is amazing if you have sensitive skin like I do!
By incorporating this mask into your skincare routine, it gives you the ability to detoxify, purify, & clarify your complexion in just 10 minutes. You can enjoy the benefits of using this mask as a full face mask or you can also use it as a spot treatment by dabbing a little on your finger & applying it directly to the problem area/blemish. If I use the mask a spot treatment, I sometimes like to even leave it on overnight!
- minimizes the appearance of pores
- absorbs excess oil
- purifies & detoxifies complexion
- helps to calm & smooth the skin
2. Counter+ No. 3 Balancing Oil
I’m SO happy I finally purchased a full size of this oil after quickly going through a mini bottle of it. It might sound counterintuitive to combat excess oil & breakouts with a facial oil but I PROMISE this is what this oil was specifically designed for! Not to mention, it smells incredible thanks to the ylang ylang oil!
I’m a big fan of incorporating facial oils into my skincare routine. My favorite way to use this Balancing Oil is to add a few drops into my Countermatch Daily Moisturizer, pat a few drops on top of my moisturizer as the last step in my routine, or simply use the oil as my last step, forgoing the moisturizer. On days where my hormonal or mask acne is a little more inflamed, I’ll do the later & simply use the oil after I cleanse with the Charcoal Cleansing Bar which I’ll go over too!
This luxurious, lightweight, smooth blend of oils is designed to hydrate, balance, smooth, & even out your skin tone & complexion making it an amazing addition to your skincare routine especially if you struggle with breakouts, excess oil, or redness!
- deeply nourishes & calms skin
- helps improve skin clarity
- adds in an extra level of hydration
- reduces redness & balances excess oil
At first I was a little hesitant to try this Charcoal Cleansing Bar due to having fear it would dry my skin out, especially since my skin is definitely on the drier side, so honestly, it came as a surprise how much I loved this little bar of soap! It works SO well & is great for calming breakouts, especially when paired with the Charcoal Mask & No. 3 Balancing Oil!
This Charcoal Cleansing Bar is formulated with Binchotan charcoal powder which helps detoxify & absorb impurities from your skin! This results in a smoother, calmer, & brighter complexion…yes please!! Plus it’s formulated without any harsh or harmful ingredients so you don’t have to worry about additional irritation occurring from your cleanser!
- cleanses & detoxifies
- helps clear up blemishes
- reduces pore size
- helps improve overall skin radiance
This Cleansing Balm is one of my FAVORITE multi-purpose products. I remember sampling it for the first time & I instantly became obsessed especially because there are SO many uses for it!! You can use it both day & night, but my favorite way to use this balm is to double cleanse & remove my makeup with it because it hydrates while it cleanses off all of the dirt & debris from the day! I’m a huge fan of double cleansing especially if I’m wearing makeup & especially if I wore a mask for a while!
Double cleansing incorporates an oil cleanser (Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm would be your “oil” cleanser) to remove makeup & initial dirt, sunscreen, etc. & THEN go in with your normal cleanser. This process helps clear the way for the actual cleanser to do it’s job, it’s great for making sure your skin & pores are squeaky clean, & it’s also amazing for acne-prone skin & the prevention of future breakouts!
This multi-purpose cleansing balm, perfect for day or night, hydrates while it cleanses, removing makeup & impurities with nourishing ingredients that won’t strip away your skin’s natural moisture. (Bonus: it can also be used as a mask for a hydrating overnight facial.) With a blend of lotus extract, jojoba seed oil, and avocado seed oil, the Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm soothes & de-stresses skin while increasing luminosity.
Using this Cleansing Balm won’t strip away the natural moisture of your skin, but will actually add it back in! You can use it to cleanse, soothe, & destress your skin in a variety of ways thanks to nourishing lotus extract, vitamin C, jojoba seed oil, & avocado seed oil! And remember how I mentioned it was an amazing multi-purpose product? You can use this Cleansing Balm as a hydrating overnight mask, on dark spots, to nourish dry skin, & MORE! A little goes a LONG way too – I only ever use an almond-size amount!
- helps the skin look brighter & more radiant
- removes makeup, dirt, & debris
- hydrates & nourishes the skin
- helps reduce irritation
- no greasy residue
I think this SOS Acne Spot Treatment should be a go-to in anyone’s routine, because who doesn’t need a little spot treatment help every once in a while! But especially with unwanted mask acne, this lightweight treatment product is a great solution for keeping those breakouts under control, & like I mentioned, it’s super lightweight so you can wear it under makeup or even wear alone. It’s a gel formula, goes on completely clear, & can be applied morning or night!
This SOS Spot Treatment product helps penetrate pores to reduce blemishes thanks to Beautycounter’s signature SkinBalance Complex & maximum-strength salicylic acid, which allows the breakouts to be addressed without drying out the skin!
- reduces blemish size
- reduces redness
- treats breakouts without over-drying the skin
- invisible gel formula
I was NEVER a huge fan of wearing a moisturizer…why? Because all of my previous ones felt so heavy on my skin. Plus, being acne prone, I never loved the thought of something feeling super heavy or greasy on my skin throughout the day. My mind & thoughts on moisturizer completely changed when I tried these two products. Absolutley incredible. The Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion is my go-to daily moisturizer & the Recovery Sleep Cream is what I use every night to combat moisture loss throughout the night, which is always something I used to struggle with!
You want to make sure that you’re protecting your skin with a good moisturizer. If your skin gets too dry or too oily, it can definitely cause some congestion, especially under a mask! Using a good moisturizer is key!
P.S. if hydration isn’t an issue for you, check out this Matte Effect Gel Cream…perfect for my ladies with oily skin!
- adjusts to hydration levels throughout the day & night
- lightweight formula, doesn’t leave you feeling greasy
- leaves skin feeling refreshed, glowing, & radiant
- comforts & soothes skin
- shields skin from moisture loss
So there you have it – seven incredible clean beauty products to help combat mask acne! If you decide to go with any products that I’ve mentioned here to help your unwanted breakouts, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! And did you know that Beautycounter offers a 60-day money back return policy? No questions asked…but I’m sure you won’t need it! 😉
