I’ve never been a coffee drinker, so when I first learned of matcha tea, I was so excited to try! From then on, I’ve become a huge fan of matcha & have tried a handful of different matcha powders over the past year or so. In April of 2021, I was introduced to a brand called Pique Tea & was instantly interested in their Sun Goddess Matcha. I had heard amazing things from other wellness bloggers & was really blown away once I started researching the brand myself.
After digging into their stringent safety measures, their super simple & pure ingredients, & overall transparency, I was SO excited to try their matcha. And wow did it not disappoint! Since April, I’ve been completely hooked on the Pique Sun Goddess Matcha which is why I want to share more about what matcha is, the many health benefits of matcha, & why Pique Tea remains my go-to for all things matcha within this post!
If you’re a matcha lover & have been looking for a super high quality & pure matcha to drink every day OR if you’re completely new to matcha but want a healthy alternative for your morning coffee, this post is for you!
What is Matcha?
Ceremonial Grade Matcha has been used for centuries by Zen monks to energize the body, calm the mind, & rejuvenate the spirit. Matcha powder is made from green tea leaves. There are many ways to enjoy matcha. The most common is to whisk the matcha powder into hot water to make a frothy, earthy green tea. You can also use matcha to make a creamy latte, which is my favorite way to drink my matcha!
After trying multiple matcha brands, I was introduced to Pique matcha earlier this year & have been hooked ever since. Their matcha is the first matcha EVER to be Quadruple Toxin Screened to ensure its purity. Not only that, but their Sun Goddess Matcha is actually sourced directly from Kagoshima, Japan, which is the furthest point away from industrial pollution, radiation, & pesticide drift. I love consuming Pique’s matcha because I know it’s the purest matcha on the market.
Matcha tea is one of the healthiest drinks out there. It delivers a higher amount of antioxidants, vitamins, & minerals in comparison to your typical green tea, as well as being packed with amazing full-body health benefits. Matcha contains chlorophyll which an incredible natural detoxifier, L-Theanine, which helps deliver a natural calmness, & catechins, which helps support cell regeneration & metabolic health. Be sure to keep reading for more matcha tea benefits!
What does matcha taste like?
In my opinion, matcha has a smooth, earthy, taste. Drinking the Pique Tea matcha, has really opened my eyes to what good, high quality matcha is supposed to taste like. Ceremonial matcha definitely has a bold flavor profile, but it shouldn’t taste overly bitter. I think that’s a common misconception regarding matcha is that it tastes really bitter.
If you’re familiar with the taste of green tea, picture the taste of matcha being more concentrated & a little more vegetal in flavor since matcha is made from green tea leaves! Definitely don’t let the green color keep you away from giving matcha a try! It’s absolutely delicious! And if you do find that it’s a little too earthy tasting for your preference, you can always add a bit of a natural sweetener such as honey or pure maple syrup to sweeten it up a bit! I add a drizzle of organic pure maple syrup to my morning Pique tea matcha & I love it!
How do you know if your matcha is high quality?
In order to tell if you’re using high quality matcha, first look to see what grade of matcha it is. Is it ceremonial grade or culinary grade? Ceremonial grade is hands down the higher quality of the two. I share more on the difference between these two grades below.
Next, you’ll want to look at the consistency & color of the powder. High quality matcha will be super fine, light, & will almost resemble the look of baby powder. The color should be a vibrant green. If your matcha powder has a dark green, yellow, or brown hue to it, then it’s not high quality. That’s one of the first things I noticed when I started using Pique’s Sun Goddess Matcha was how light, silky, & bright green the powder was!
You can also give your matcha a good smell test to check the quality. For this, all you need to do is take a good whiff of the powder. It should smell fresh & vegetal…I think my Pique tea matcha smells almost like fresh spinach, which is a good thing haha!
And finally, high quality matcha shouldn’t taste overly bitter. In my opinion, matcha definitely has some level of bitterness to it, but it shouldn’t be overwhelming. Good quality matcha can often be described as tasting smooth & may even taste sweet thanks to the complexity of amino acids present.
Ceremonial Grade Matcha vs. Culinary Grade Matcha
Ceremonial grade matcha is the highest quality of matcha & has been used by Zen monks for centuries to energize the body, calm the mind, & rejuvenate the spirit. You might notice ceremonial grade matcha powder also has a vibrant green color to it. Culinary grade matcha is typically less expensive & a much more of a lower grade than ceremonial matcha. Culinary matcha is often used within lattes or foods/desserts with matcha flavoring.
If you’re consuming matcha regularly, I’d suggest choosing a ceremonial grade matcha to ensure that the matcha is pure & of good quality!
What’s the difference between matcha tea & green tea?
Although matcha & green tea are similar in ways, their differences include the way they are processed, the consistency (tea leaves vs. matcha powder), the caffeine content (matcha tea is more concentrated, resulting in a much higher caffeine content), antioxidant content (again, matcha is higher in antioxidants), & the way they taste. Matcha tea has a concentrated green tea earthly flavor (sometimes bitter) while green tea can sometimes have a diverse flavor profile & definitely doesn’t taste as bitter.

What is Pique Tea?
Did you know that Pique Tea is the #1 Doctor Recommended Tea? Along with their organic certification, Pique Tea provides a variety of tea that is effective thanks to Cold Extraction Technology™, pure, thanks to Triple Toxin Screening for pesticides, heavy metals, & toxic mold, & accessible for on-the-go consumption since no prep or brewing is required.
Pique Tea prides themselves on providing the highest quality of teas & superfood products. They source ingredients with integrity, are transparent about purity levels, & use innovative Cold Extraction Technology™ to extract whole form phytonutrients from plants for maximum efficacy & health benefits.
One of the main reasons I love Pique is due to their purification process. Did you know that tea is one of the most pesticide-laden crops? I love that when I consume my Sun Goddess Matcha, I don’t have to worry about the presence of pesticides, toxic mold, heavy metals, or other impurities. Unfortunately, these toxins have had links to a variety of long-term health issues. As someone who tries to reduce toxins as often as possible within my life & home, this alone is extremely important to me, especially because I do consume Pique’s matcha nearly every day.
Pique Tea Sun Goddess Matcha
I have to say I really enjoy a good matcha & over the years, I’ve tried a variety of brands. I started drinking the Pique Tea Sun Goddess Matcha in April 2021 & was blown away by the quality. It was something that I noticed on the first sip. I’ve never been a coffee drinker, so I really love matcha because it’s calming, energizing, & just gives me a little sharpness boost to take on my day.
Pique Tea matcha is also the FIRST matcha on the market to be Quadruple Toxin Screened for impurities such as pesticides, heavy metals, & toxic mold. Pique believes that if you are going to be consuming something daily, it has to be pure & that’s exactly what they’ve provided with their Sun Goddess Matcha products.

Is Pique matcha worth it?
You might find yourself asking why Pique Tea is so expensive. Although the price is definitely steeper than other teas on the market, with Pique you’re paying for quality, transparency, & ecological sourcing. Did you know that Pique Matcha is Triple Toxin Screened? This screening process is to ensure the tea is free of pesticides, heavy metals, & toxic mold. Purity & quality is of the utmost importance at Pique & that’s why I believe their prices are justified, since you aren’t seeing that type of transparency from other tea brands.
And if you look at the Sun Goddess Matcha specifically, there is one ingredient: Organic Ceremonial Grade Japanese matcha. Believe it or not, the highest quality of ceremonial grade matcha on the market is not organic & certified organic matchas are not made according to the high standards of ceremonial grade. Pique saw this gap between the two matcha worlds & solved it with their incredibly high quality Organic Ceremonial Grade Japanese matcha. Plus! Pique’s matcha is actually crafted by a Japanese tea master!
Does Pique Tea Matcha have caffeine?
Yes, Pique Tea matcha does contain caffeine…approximately 54-82mg per serving. Due to the caffeine present, it’s best to enjoy your Sun Goddess Matcha in the morning or afternoon.
Best ways to drink Pique Tea Matcha:
You can enjoy & drink Pique Tea Sun goddess Matcha hot or cold! I usually prefer my matcha to be hot. To make my hot matcha latte, I first measure out 3/4 of my mug with filtered water & heat that up using my SMEG electric kettle. I then add the hot water, oat milk, a Sun Goddess Matcha stick, a scoop of Perfect Supplement Collagen, & a drizzle of maple syrup to my Vitamix & blend! For me, this is my favorite way to enjoy my matcha & I usually have one every morning!
You can also enjoy your Pique Tea Matcha cold by making your own iced matcha latte. For a cold latte, I stick to the same ingredients above but of course, use cold water instead of hot water. Add the water, dairy free milk of your choice, a matcha stick, & sweetener of choice to a high speed blender! Serve over ice or simply as is & enjoy!
