Mixing old & new wardrobe pieces turned out to be the perfect outfit for my winter engagement in the Tivoli Garderns of Copenhagen, Denmark.
I hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of 2017!! I wanted to dedicate this post to breaking down the outfit I was PROPOSED to in & why it was so special!!
When I initially picked out & planned this outfit, I knew I wanted to wear it on Christmas. I didn’t know what our plans were or where we would be. I just KNEW that I would wear this outfit. A couple weeks before I left the states, my mom cleaned out her closet & so kindly gifted me with so many of her STUNNING European designer pieces from when she worked & lived overseas.
Not only was I thrilled about receiving everything, but I was really excited to start mixing my own clothes with these more vintage & classic looking pieces.
Mixing old & new.
I have seen so many looks recently that incorporate a wide leg, high waisted trouser, & until now, I haven’t owned a pair of pants that fit that description. My mom sent me these stunning olive green MaxMara pants, as well as a few others, & I couldn’t love them more.
The fit is exceptional.
I find pants to be extremely slimming when they fit properly, that includes, the width, height, waistline, & hem. Although these were hers, they fit me like a glove. I am also loving deep greens & browns, especially during cold winter weather. I think it gives a look of the holiday season without trying too hard.
This white ruffled H&M blouse is from my own closet & I thought the off-white really complemented the deep colors going on in rest of my outfit. The fabric was light & airy, complete with a keyhole back, which I love, because it gives it that girly flare. Unfortunately, this shirt is not currently in my possession, housekeeping at the hotel mistook it for a towel.
**UPDATE.. They found it & it was returned!**
Now onto the coat!
Especially this year, I have grown to really love long pea coats. This deep green Sportmax pea coat was also my moms. I vividly remember her wearing this coat when we lived overseas. Although both the pants & coat were a similar green tone, I did not feel that they overpowered one another. The off-white blouse helped to break up the darkness & gave a really clean & polished look.
The belt is Calvin Klein & was also my moms.
I love the daintiness of the gold buckle & I think this helped pull the look together. I completed the look with a black boot with a slightly pointed toe & square heel from Public Desire& a black crossbody from Tory Burch. This is a great bag for really crowed places & traveling in general. It stays right at your side and I wore mine inside my coat, just for added protection. The gold accents of the purse also complemented the gold and black belt well.
Wearing these pieces that my mom gave to me, was incredibly special. I loved mixing a little old & new. Not only was it my first Christmas away from my family, but I got engaged & obviously my family wasn’t there. I’m usually not sentimental, but wearing pieces that I’ve seen my mom wear while I was growing up, is something I cherish. It was really special to have a piece of family with me during such a life-changing moment.
