Here’s why I started using the Norwex Fruit & Veggie Cloth to clean unwanted wax, debris, & pesticides off of my fresh produce before consuming!
Hi everyone! I’m actually really excited about today’s topic because I eat a TON of fresh fruit & vegetables & I’m always searching for ways to make sure I’m decreasing the chances of consuming anything I don’t need to be. With that said, I was recently introduced to a brand called Norwex. Norwex has the goal of improving the lives of their customers by decreasing the amount of chemicals found in homes today. And believe it or not, there’s actually a multitude of chemicals lurking on your store-bought produce, so keep reading!
When it comes to properly cleaning my fruits & veggies, I have to say I’ve tried many many avenues. I’ve used plain white vinegar the longest, I’ve done Apple Cider Vinegar washes/soaks…I’ve even bought a bamboo bristle brush because I saw a few of my favorite bloggers using them to later find out that they are the worst! I used this one here up until I started using the amazing Norwex Fruit & Veggie Cloth. I highly do not recommend any sort of circular brush like the one I was using. It was uncomfortable in my hand, the bristles got pushed down after I scrubbed 1 sweet potato, & overall, I felt like it just harbored a ton of bacteria because it was really difficult to clean.
Anyone who consumes fresh produce should know the importance of cleaning before consuming.
And yes, cleaning your produce should definitely consist of more than just a quick rinse under water. Why? Because unfortunately in today’s world, our produce is subject to toxic treatment & pesticides before they end up in our fridge. Especially if you don’t buy organic. Although I do think organic produce is immensely important, I 100% understand that #1 it isn’t accessible to everyone, & #2 the price is sometimes not doable! I’ve faced both instances & I’m not afraid to admit that I absolutely do not buy everything organic. There are some items that I try to buy organic, especially if they have a thin skin or if they are on the Dirty Dozen list.
If you aren’t familiar with the Dirty Dozen, I urge you to give it at least a glance. Basically, the most popular produce items are analyzed based on their pesticide contamination. The most contaminated produce is called the Dirty Dozen & the cleanest is called the Clean 15.
“The USDA testing found 225 different pesticide and pesticide breakdown products on popular produce consumed every day, which were all thoroughly washed and peeled before testing, just as a consumer would which shows simple washing does not remove all pesticides.” – Environmental Working Group
Now regardless if you buy conventional or organic, the evidence is there. You still need to be cleaning your fruits & vegetables before consumption. But the question is HOW. How are you going to clean your produce to the best of your ability & what is the best method for highly effective removal of all of the junk/pesticides, dirt, wax, & debris?
Here’s where Norwex comes in!
Norwex is a brand focusing on cutting-edge products that not only help their consumers live more sustainably, but they also have the goal of eliminating the use of chemicals found within each household. Which I personally LOVE & can 100% stand behind! The amount of chemicals & toxins we come in contact with in our day to day lives is crazy! Just because we aren’t putting something directly onto our skin or consuming it, doesn’t mean our body isn’t absorbing the chemicals that we use…specifically when cleaning, which is primarily what Norwex focuses on!
Eliminating toxins whether they may be in or outside of our bodies is really important, in my opinion, for the longevity of our health. And every little bit matters…so being able to clean anything really, without the use of chemicals, is amazing. And that’s what you can expect when you purchase a product from Norwex. They truly have something for everything & everyone.
But back to how I’m currently cleaning my produce!!
Between Devin & I, we eat a ton of produce in one day, so I love the convenience that the Norwex Fruit & Veggie cloth provides. All you need to do is rinse your fruit under water, wet the cloth, & scrub! And this works for everything produce related!! This cloth also pairs nicely with the Norwex Veggie Wash!
Did you know that you should even clean the skin of fruits that you don’t eat, like a watermelon or avocado? Why? It’s because when you use a knife to slice into the fruit, you contaminate the inside of the produce with whatever was originally on the outer skin! This is something that I don’t do 100% of the time, but it’s definitely something to keep in the back of your mind!
The Fruit & Veggie Cloth has two sides:
The rougher side, which is shown in the photos is used for scrubbing & works great on produce with a thick skin, such as, apples, carrots, avocados, & potatoes. There is also a softer side for drying & polishing if you flip the cloth over. This side works perfectly for produce with thinner skin like tomatoes, grapes, & lettuce.

Just because you can’t physically see the chemicals lurking around on your fresh produce like you’re able to see a waxy shine or the occasional dirt on your potatoes, doesn’t mean it’s not there! Since I’ve been using (& loving) my Norwex Fruit & Veggie Cloth, gone are the days of guessing whether or not my produce is clean. The fibers & technology that went into this cloth are able to effectively remove & clean anything unwanted from your produce…leaving those fruits & veggies looking gorgeous & tasting so much better!!
I’m extremely honest & selective regarding the products I feature on my blog. With that said, I believe chemical free cleaning & living is the way of the future & SO important for our health. This is a huge reason why I am so excited about bringing Norwex into my home. Norwex promotes chemical free living & their products are extremely environmentally friendly! They’re awesome if you’re trying to reduce one-time use cleaning items like paper towels. Read this post for more ways I love using my Norwex products within my home!
If you are interested in this Fruit & Veggie Cloth, you can find it linked directly below! Guys, it’s only $13.99!! It’s so durable & will last a long time if you take care of it properly!
