How to Manage Stress Naturally
1. Don’t ignore it
Stress doesn’t appear out of the blue. A great way to manage stress is to tune in & figure out where it’s stemming from. Your stress is stemming from somewhere in your life. It could be from past trauma, a relationship, friendship, job, lack of time management, lack of focus, drive, or purpose, a life event or situation, worry about the future, money, etc. We all are human & it’s important to note that stress can come in many different shades & forms.
If you’re unsure of where your stress is rooted, I’d suggest talking it through to someone you trust or journaling, because the more we avoid it & act like it isn’t there, the more harm we cause!
2. Breath work
Breath sustains life & plays a crucial role in managing stress & anxiety. Through our breath, we are able to send messages to our brain. Practicing deep breathing or belly breathing, alternate nostril breathing, roll breathing, or square breathing can really be beneficial in lowering stress found within the body. Try this 5 Minute Deep Breathing Exercise HERE! Developing a breath work practice is such a simple way to relieve & manage stress especially because we don’t need anything other than ourselves to practice it!
3. CBD
I love CBD & think it’s a great way to help manage stress naturally. CBD can provide assistance to anyone struggling with different types of general stress & anxiety. But be careful & do your research before purchasing the first brand of CBD you find! I love Veggimins, for all things CBD, due to their care & quality behind the ingredients that make up their CBD products. I personally feel really good about putting their CBD into my body.
4. Yoga
Yoga is one of my favorite stress management techniques & really played a huge roll in how I learned to manage stress & anxiety naturally. I started taking yoga really seriously after 4 of the most stressful years in my life & I truly believe it helped me purge through all of those emotions in a peaceful & more mindful way.
You don’t have to be a yogi-master to reap the benefits of a yoga practice. Anyone with a body can benefit from what yoga can provide. There are SO many resources out there. You don’t need a fancy membership, or a $100 yoga mat, all you need is yourself, your body, & an open mind! Be sure to check out 10 of my favorite online yoga flows here!
5. Essential Oils
I have been using essential oils for years, for a multitude of things, one being aromatherapy for stress relief! Oils such as Lavender, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Lemongrass, Orange, & Frankincense are all wonderful for dealing with stress or anxiety. If you’re new to essential oils, I’d highly recommend getting an essential oil diffuser. That way, you can enjoy the aromatherapy benefits of the oils without having to do much work!
6. Let go of expectations
Let go of expectations or beliefs that everyone else is living a perfect life. Obviously no one is living a perfect life. But that’s not to say that you can’t live your best life. That’s all you have to do. Live everyday to the best of your ability & that’s going to look different for everyone! But that’s the beauty of life!
Expectations can often weigh heavy on ourselves, whether they are coming from external sources or even your own internal expectations. That’s an area that I find myself working on for sure! Internally, I have a long list of expectations that I believe should be met everyday, but sometimes they simply are not. And that’s okay.
7. Adaptogens
Incorporating adaptogens like Ashwagandha or Cordyceps into your wellness routine can definitely help you lower your stress in a natural way. If you are unfamiliar with adaptogens, they are used in herbal medicine to bring the body back to homeostasis, by helping the body resist stressors of all kinds! Four Sigmatic is one of my go-to brands for all things mushrooms & adaptogens. Looking for an adaptogen blend for stress management? I’d suggest this one!
8. Practice gratitude
Cultivating a gratitude practice can be life changing. Seriously! It will open your eyes to a whole different side of your life. Practicing gratitude helps you focus on the good in your life which will help you maintain a more positive outlook. Having a more positive outlook will then help you remain centered & will help sustain emotional well-being when faced with stress!
9. Prioritize quiet time
Spending time alone with yourself & your thoughts can be very telling of areas where you can welcome improvement into your life. No one knows you better than yourself. You can learn to be your biggest teacher & healer through spending time with yourself, without any distractions.
10. Meditation
Meditation can be extremely intimidating for someone who has never done it before. What I’ve found to be true with meditation is that you will find & gravitate towards what you subconsciously need. For me, sound healing meditations are very calming & relaxing for me. I listen to this one here, on an app called Insight Timer, almost every morning while I’m getting ready for the day & it really helps to remain centered & grounded.
