Summer is officially here & to celebrate, I’m sharing 5 healthy skin habits for the warmer months. It’s essential that we take care of our skin in the summer. We spend time outside, we sweat, we swim, we lather on sunscreen – I could go on & on! There’s a lot of built up junk that can be left over on our skin from a day outside. And then when you pair that with the busyness of summer, it’s easy to not stay hydrated or take care of yourself in the ways I’m sharing below!
So if you’re in need of a little summer skin inspiration, I hope the skincare tips below can help! I’m sharing my favorite ways to make sure I’m drinking enough water, the best cleansers to cleanse away the day, ways to brighten up your summer skincare routine, & more!
Healthy Skin Habits for Summer
1. Stay Hydrated
Not only is staying hydrated a great summer skin habit to commit to, but it’s one that will benefit your entire body! Proper hydration will lead to healthier skin this summer & beyond. Water intake has definitely been something I’ve struggled with up until I purchased my first Hydroflask! Now that I have a great water bottle, I find that I’m more inclined to pick it up & drink water throughout the day. About 8 or so cups of water per day is recommended for someone looking to stay hydrated.

2. Cleanse Well
During the summer months, there can be a lot of built up stuff left over on our skin from a day out in the sun. Think sweat, makeup, debris, left over sunscreen, excess oil, dirt, & more! A great way to take care of your skin in the summer is to find a gentle cleanser to use morning & night to make sure you are cleansing away the day properly.

3. Revamp Your Routine
It’s always a good idea to reevaluate your skin & what it needs when the seasons change. You might remember me sharing some tips on upgrading your Fall skincare routine – summer is no different! Maintaining a good skincare routine during the summer months will definitely keep your skin happy, healthy, & hydrated. A solid 4-step routine is definitely the way to go (cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer). Once you have your core regimen routine down, I’d suggest introducing a few treatment products to help target any problem areas you may be experiencing with your skin!

4. Prioritize Sun Protection
One of the best ways to take care of your skin in the summer is to prioritize wearing SPF. I definitely believe that being in the sun is a good thing as long as you’re being mindful about taking care of your skin. An abundance of sun exposure can lead to premature aging, sun spots, dark spots, fine lines, & wrinkles. With that said, consistent use of a clean sunscreen is crucial, especially in the hot summer months! I prefer & would recommend mineral sunscreen.

5. Exfoliate
Keeping your body exfoliated is definitely a great way to take care of your skin in the summer. I love either using a sugar scrub or a dry brush to exfoliate my body. Good exfoliation will definitely help keep the skin on your body looking & feeling its best! This is especially true on areas where you shave. My skin is really sensitive which makes me prone to shaving/razor irritation. On days when I shave, I really make sure to do a good job exfoliating. Doing so, really helps a lot!
My favorite body exfoliators:
Sugarbuff Body Polish– This sugar scrub has a delicious lemongrass scent & features finely milled sugar to exfoliate, & sweet almond oil to hydrate & soften your skin.
Dry Brush – The sweeping motion of the brush against your skin will not only exfoliate off all your dead skin cells, but it actually encourages cell renewal & helps combat clogged pores (which easily happens due to shaving).
Preserve Razor – I really have enjoyed my Preserve Razor. The lubricating shave strip is non-toxic & I really haven’t experienced any shaving irritation when using it, especially when I exfoliate prior to shaving! Another tip for decreasing irritation caused by shaving is to not shave as soon as you get in the shower. I always save my shaving until last, so that my skin & hair have a chance to soften under the hot water of the shower. It really does make a big difference.
